Transformers is the latest in a never-ending line of films to get its own expanded cinematic universe. But up until now, we haven't known what other films Paramount might include in the new Transformers universe besides Transformers 5 (and we all knew that one was coming anyway.
Now, we know. Or at least, we have an idea. IGN reports that Hasbro and IDW are working together to create a new team of Transformers that will be all-female. The team, which does not have a name yet, will debut first in a line of comic books, and will then get a toy line afterward.
Sarah Carroll, senior brand manager for Transformers at Hasbro, made a statement about the company's commitment to female Transformers. "Our female fans have demanded to be part of the story," Carroll stated. "To have them be represented as well is something that's only natural."
This female team may well be the first spin-off to come from the new Transformers cinematic universe. After all, several other franchises are also creating all-female spin-offs, like Ghostbusters and 21 Jump Street.
As well, the one official Transformers sequel we can confirm, Transformers 5, may be moving forward very quickly. Superhero Hype reports that the fifth Transformers film may already have a release date locked down. According to the President and CEO of Hasbro, while the release date isn't totally set in stone, the company is aiming to get the next Transformers film in theaters by that date.
"We have in fact brought in [Akiva Goldsman] to lead a group of writers to really create a strategic plan around Transformers - we think there's any number of stories to be told. It's a brand that's been around for 30 years with amazing cannon and mythology. We would expect the sequel to the Transformers movie to happen in 2017.
Expect to see plenty of Transformers on TV, on store shelves and everywhere else from now until then.
