NCIS Season 12 Finale Spoilers: Fan favorite character to be killed off; Will Ziva finally return only to die?

By

An NCIS Season 12 fan favorite character is going to die as Season 12 comes to a close.

The tragic ending was finally confirmed by showrunner Gary Glasberg who told TV Guide, "At the end of the penultimate episode, something pretty atrocious happens and we lose someone very close to us in the process."

Emily Wickersham, who plays Probationary Special Agent Ellie Bishop adds, "It's a fan favorite, and I think it's going to be quite a shock. It was a shock to me, and I think it will be a shock to the fans."

The revelation confirms speculations on a major character being killed off after CBS teased its storyline for the NCIS Season 12 finale with an investigation following "a deadly bombing that results in an emotional and surprising loss for the team."

The death will happen in the May 5 episode, "The Lost Boys," the second installment in the 3-episode finale investigating into a global terrorist group that recruits children on the internet to carry out acts of terrorism. The guesswork now centers on which character will be killed.

Although CBS is not confirming which NCIS character would be written off the series, reported contract renewals for some of the lead stars would take them out of the "who's next to be killed" polls.

Michael Weatherly, who plays Special Agent Anthony DiNozzo, has just renewed his contract. Sean Murray's Agent Timothy McGee will once again be part of the naval investigation team. Pauley Perrette's character, forensic specialist Abby Sciuto, is also coming back on the show. David MacCallum will again be playing doctor as Chief Medical Examiner Dr. Donald Mallard. The list however is quiet on Cote de Pablo who plays Ziva David but has not been seen on the series for some time. There is also Probationary Agent Ned Dorneget who is played by Matt Jones.

Glasberg remains mum on the specifics but does admit that the death's impact on the team is serious. "It's someone that we know and that we're close to. And that will spark the appearance of other familiar faces as well."

Wickersham points out, "When there's any sort of loss of a coworker or a friend or anyone that you've known for a while, it rattles you. It becomes a motivating thing for the team."

Glasberg still sees a bright note amid the dark unsettling NCIS Season 12 finale saying, "The return of some very familiar faces...will make our fans very happy."

NCIS Season 12 finale episodes air on May 5 and May 12 on CBS.
