The partnership between OnePlus and Cyanogen has completely been cut off as Cyanogen co-founders Kirt McMaster and Steve Kondik confirmed the severed ties between the two groups at the Global Mobile Internet Conference at Beijing. According to the news report by IBT, both companies had different goals for the software, thus the break-up, and also it has been announced that OnePlus had developed their own Android based OS.
Earlier this year, OnePlus had announced that they will be using their self-developed Oxygen OS with their next flagship smart phone, the OnePlus Two. Oxygen OS is based with on the current Google's Android Lollipop OS thus making users experience the OnePlus android version. The Chinese manufacturer claimed that the new OS will be light and not system heavy. The OS is said to feature screen gestures and an improved file manager.
The Oxygen OS will come fresh out of the box for the OnePlus Two. However, for OnePlus One users who wish to install the new OS to their smart phone, a complete system wipe is necessary. This would make users lose all their data.
Earlier this month however, OnePlus One started to deliver the Android based Cyanogen OS 12 OTA (over the air) in selected regions. Cyanogen also had unveiled the BlissPop ROM custom update which would allow OnePlus One owners to update their software to a status similar to that of Android 5.1. The update includes the latest enhancements and bug fixes that are available to the Android 5.1 Lollipop.
Despite the fall out between the two companies, Cyanogen still keeps on developing their OS updates that is still OnePlus One ready. The Cyanogen OS 12 is confirmed for release in the coming weeks. This software update brings with it a new feature called the LiveDisplay. The roll-out was temporarily delayed due to some issues with Google Play Service but the issue was addressed immediately, thus the roll-out is still on the go.
Despite the business divorce by OnePlus and Cyanogen, the Chinese smart phone Manufacturer is still up to date when it comes to its software updates.
