Thanks to F4K, your Samsung Galaxy S4 may get the long awaited update that you want. But consider this virgin territory as this is not an official update.

Recently, a new CyanogenMod Android 5.1.1 Lollipop CM12.1 series custom ROM has been made available for the diminutive flagship product Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini.

Though not an official update from the makers of CyanogenMod, this release is a product of the much-revered F4K from the famous XDA Developers forum group. The update itself is based on the latest AOSP (Android Open Source Project) 5.1.1 Lollipop.

For its part, XDA Developers gives credence to F4K as a recognized contributor/recognized developer at the forums.

• It is best to back all your data as the installation of a custom ROM cannot be done without clearing the memory of your device. You can do this by installing Clockwork Mod (CWM) Recovery/TWRP.

• Get your device 80% charged. A power loss could result in your smartphone getting bricked temporarily should the installation process be interrupted midway
