By

Thanks to F4K, your Samsung Galaxy S4 may get the long awaited update that you want. But consider this virgin territory as this is not an official update.

Recently, a new CyanogenMod Android 5.1.1 Lollipop CM12.1 series custom ROM has been made available for the diminutive flagship product Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini.

Though not an official update from the makers of CyanogenMod, this release is a product of the much-revered F4K from the famous XDA Developers forum group. The update itself is based on the latest AOSP (Android Open Source Project) 5.1.1 Lollipop.

For its part, XDA Developers gives credence to F4K as a recognized contributor/recognized developer at the forums.

F4K hails from Argentina.

This latest update is geared towards boosting the performance of your Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini. Additionally, it could enhance battery-life and introduce a slew of customization options which could enhance the over-all user-experience for the Samsung device.

This could be a timely update given the fact that recent updates for the Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini met a lot of technical problems in England as reported earlier.

Since going through the whole upgrade process is a technical matter and could endanger the overall performance of the S4 Mini if not done properly, it is best that users proceed with caution when installing this upgrade.

Here are some salient points that should be taken into mind before making the most of this CyanogenMod update:

  • This upgrade is meant only for the Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini 3G, GT-I9190, GT-I9192, and LTE variant (GT-I9195) and will bring more harm than good to other devices as your device could get bricked.

For device model checking: Go to Settings >> About phone >> model number.

  • A warning: Though this update could improve your device's overall performance and UI, utilizing it means company warranty is void and Samsung may no longer be liable to give you future updates
  • Make sure that you have your USB Drivers for you PC or your device (Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini I9190/I9192/I9195) may not be seen by the computer
  • Do not proceed with the custom ROM installation if your device has not been rooted
  • It is best to back all your data as the installation of a custom ROM cannot be done without clearing the memory of your device. You can do this by installing Clockwork Mod (CWM) Recovery/TWRP.
  • Get your device 80% charged. A power loss could result in your smartphone getting bricked temporarily should the installation process be interrupted midway

To utilize the upgrade, please visit this site. Needless to say this procedure is technical. However, this could be the very update your Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini is waiting for.
