Although the fate of Agent Carter rests in ABC's hands, the show's fans are scrambling to petition the network to give the show another season run despite last season's meager ratings, and amid reviews and polls pointing to a cancellation.
Hayley Atwell, who portrayed Agent Peggy Carter, was at the Chicago Comic and Entertainment Expo (C2E2) in late April and a note was attached to her Agent Carter autograph table stand presumably left there by either a fan with an insider source or possibly coming straight from Atwell and her team. The FAQ note reads, "We will know in 3 weeks if Agent Carter is renewed for another season. But it looks good given the fan response."
At least a couple of online petitions have been going around with even socially-relevant and politically-correct Change.Org petitioning ABC to renew Agent Carter. The month-long petition has nearly reached its one thousand signatures target, short by only a little over a hundred. The petition cites Agent Carter as providing "a television show that finally has a female lead that is intelligent, witty, strong and not afraid to speak her mind."
However, chances that Agent Carter will be returning to the small screen are getting slimmer by the day if analysts and polls are to be believed.
The latest cancellation predictions on TV by the Numbers on Zap2it has a final prediction for Agent Carter as "likely to be cancelled" after being on the "likely cancelled" list for some weeks.
Forbes contributor Merrill Barr supports this prediction saying Agent Carter Season 2 will be less likely given that Marvel and ABC are reportedly already in talks about creating two new shows, one being an Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. spin off and another with executive producer John Ridley.
Barr further notes that Agent Carter has no reason to continue on to another season as it was really intended for a short 8-episode season with a finale that cleanly wrapped up the entire storyline.
Agent Carter finished its season in February with a Finale that had a series low rating of 4.02 million viewers overall with a 1.3 share in the 18-49 demographics, according to Forbes.
