"Secrets & Lies" Recap: Is Season 2 underway? Is Ryan Philippe's arc really over?

If you're an avid watcher of the gripping remake of an Australian tv series Secrets and Lies, which tackles twists & turns in the lives of families, then you may want to go over a Secrets and Lies recap of the astounding season ender.

The finale has been described as "crazy" way to wrap up a season. Lead actor Ryan Philippe himself had said that the finale was devastating. It has knocked the socks off normal tv viewers expecting an ending typical of cliffhanger series where the culprit is caught in the end. On the other hand, there were those who felt 'emotionally duped.'

The whodunit tv series premiered last year, with the good-looking ex-husband of Reese Witherspoon playing the lead role. Well, Ryan has matured and has tackled meaty roles since his "Cruel Intentions" and "I Know What You Did Last Summer" days. His film credits include include the critically acclaimed "Crash" and "Gosford Park" and has appeared in "One Life to Live" and "Damages."

A Secrets & Lies recap points to the fact that the tv series had the key ingredients for a suspense thriller hit. An actor who has proven his mettle; an Oscar nominated actress, Juliette Lewis ("Cape Fear"); and a gripping storyline from writer-producer Barbie Kilgman who's the creative brains behind the Grey's Anatomy spin-off and Private Practice.

In Secrets and Lies, Ryan Philippe played the role of the family man from a small town who gets entangled in the case of a slain young boy whose body he chances upon. The rest of the series shows Philippe trying to clear his name. The series touched on facing the repercussions of skeletons in one's closet or "little deceptions", and how people are sometimes forced to skirt the law when immediate family comes into the picture.

What some viewers found bothersome about the series finale is that the protagonist's kin turns out to be the murderer, and the latter tries to cover up her grave misdeed.

Overall, the tv series does lure and hook viewers, but the other question is, will you watch Season 1 over again and check out Season 2 sans Ryan Philippe? See, the original Australian mini series was really a one-season project.
