London Palace Welcomed the New Royal Princess with Gun Salutes; Royal Baby Named Charlotte Elizabeth Diana

In honor of the birth of the new princess, 41 volleys rang out at Hyde Park and a 62 gun salute were fire by soldiers at the Tower of London. It is a tradition to have a gun salute every time there is a newborn prince or princess. On Saturday morning, Princess Kate and Prince William welcomed their 3.7kg princess named Charlotte Elizabeth Diana.

The Royal Artillery Band together with their 71 horses pulled six World War One-era Ordnance Quick Fire 13-pounder field guns. Simultaneously, the Honourable Artillery Company have left their Armoury House barracks London to fire a 62-gun salute at the Tower of London from three Ceremonial 105mm light guns.

The new princess was born on Saturday at 8:34 am, and to mark her arrival, the bells of Westminster Abbey rang out at exactly 2pm. The baby was named Princess Charlotte Elizabeth Diana. Since the royal couple are known for being traditional, the names were chosen to pay tribute to both side of Prince William and Kate Middleton.

"The duke and duchess are hugely grateful for the messages of congratulations they have received from people all over the world. It means a great deal to them that so many people have celebrated the arrival of their new daughter," a Kensington Palace spokesman said on Sunday.

Cornwall's Duchess and the Prince of Wales spent an hour with the new princess. Michael and Carole Middleton, and sister Pippa also went to meet the royal baby. Prince Harry, who almost missed his niece's birth said the newborn princess "absolutely beautiful" and could not wait to meet her.

Twitter was alive even it was in the wee hours already. "Only a few Minutes here on earth with us and the princess is already all over Twitter," a girl commented on Twitter. "IM CRYING SO HARD RIGHT NOW IM SHAKING," someone also tweeted.

The social media was poured over with the hashtag #royalbaby. "The #RoyalBaby just a reminder that if you didn't feel unsuccessful enough already there is now a baby that's richer than you too," a guy Dan Lewis posted on Twitter.
