A "Black Widow" standalone movie 'craving' has become a buzz earlier this week online. Several websites posted articles enumerating the reasons why a "Black Widow" movie would hit of in the box-office. Scarlett Johansson took the opportunity to satiate such cravings and created a short film featuring her character, the "Black Widow."
Saturday Night Live gave the "Black Widow" the opportunity to shine on her very own film with a short movie clip featuring Scarlett Johansson herself. The romantic comedy featured Natasha Romanoff a self-possessed spy looking for love in the big city. The actress even hosted the show that night and gamely played along with everyone. In the clip, "Black Widow" is working on a fashion magazine in New York and happens to fell in love with a robot named Ultron.
The issue came about after the noticeable lack of "Black Widow" merchandises. Chris Evans and Jeremy Renner called her character a slut in an earlier interview gaining the sympathy of the public. Come to think of it, why isn't Marvel investing in a "Black Widow" movie despite the characters success and significant in the Avengers? Marvel is willing to invest in a less popular Marvel hero, "Captain Marvel" but must have forgotten the "Black Widow's" superb performance in the "Avengers" franchise.
However, Scarlett Johansson is keeping her spirits high and even praised "Avengers: Age of Ultron" director Joss Whedon for his representation of female superheroes in film. She said, "For so long, female superheroes have been mistreated, and I think women's roles in general are often oversimplified and generic and saccharine. I've finally been able to be a part of creating this character that is really multifaceted, and it's fallen into what is generally a kind of male-dominated genre. To finally be sharing that with somebody else, and certainly with Lizzie, is a wonderful thing and a step in the right direction."
The "Black Widow" character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe may or may have not been "neglected" by Marvel when it comes to toys, merchandise and the right to a standalone movie. It does not change the fact that she remains to be the most popular and most cunning female superhero in the MCU.
