Martin Freeman Gets Out of the Shire: From 'Hobbit' To 'Captain America: Civil War'

By

Martin Freeman is finally moving away from the 'Shire'. Freeman who is well-known for his role in Peter Jackson's The Hobbit Trilogy has been tapped to be a part in Captain America: Civil War.

Marvel Studios made the movie casting official via a Twitter post. Freeman's role in the next chapter of the Captain America series has still been kept under wraps. What has been clear-cut in this thirteenth installment of the Marvel Cinematic Universe is that returning actors Chris Evans (Captain America) and Robert Downey Jr. (Tony Stark/Iron Man) will no longer be playing on the same side of the fence as they will be slugging it out due to opposing views on a recently pass Mutant Registration Act.

Caught in the middle of this major squabble in Captain America: Civil War are Scarlett Johansson (Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow), Jeremy Renner (Hawkeye), Anthony Mackie (Falcon), Elizabeth Olsen (Scarlett Witch) and Sebastian Stan (Winter Soldier) who will all be reprising their roles.

Debuting with Freeman in Captain America: Civil War are Frank Grillo (Crossbones) and Daniel Bruhl (Baron Zemo). The 34-year-old actor is also best known for portraying quirky television characters namely Tim Canterbury in 'The Office' and Dr. John Watson in 'Sherlock'.

"From his roles as Bilbo Baggins and Doctor Watson to Tim in The Office, Martin's range from the dramatic to the comedic has consistently impressed us," said Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige announced in a statement. "We couldn't be more honored or excited to have such a talented actor join the Marvel Cinematic Universe."

In related news, Benedict Cumberbatch has also been nabbed by the Marvel Cinematic Universe fever earlier this year to put on the cloak of Dr. Strange. There has been no word as of yet if the master magician will make a cameo appearance in Captain America: Civil War.

Captain America: Civil War opens in theaters May 6, 2016.
