‘The Hateful Eight’ Movie Update: 5 Things to Know about Tarantino’s New Western Film

By

Quentin Tarantino adds "The Hateful Eight" in his list of Western films. The award-winning director almost dropped the project due to the leak of its early script. Fortunately, Tarantino pursued the project after a successful live staged reading of the movie's script. Before the movie hits theaters this fall, here are the things we know about the movie's conception and production.

Why Christoph Waltz did not join new Tarantino film

Perhaps, no one will contend that Quentin Tarantino helped Christoph Waltz in making it big in Hollywood and become an Academy award winner. This made the fans of Tarantino movies assumed that Waltz will join in "The Hateful Eight." Apparently, the 58-year old actor said that he won't be starring in Tarantino's new film as he doesn't want to be pigeon-holed and be part of the acclaimed director's "groupie."

Viggo Mortensen could have been the film's villain

The "Lord of the Rings" star admitted that he would have wanted to join "The Hateful Eight" had his schedule permitted it. Viggo Mortensen met with Quentin to discuss about his attachment to the film but eventually had to leave the project due to conflict of schedule. "The Hateful Eight" could have revived Mortensen's mainstream career as the movie's villain.

"The Hateful Eight" Novel

When the early draft of the movie script leaked online last year, Tarantino considered turning it into an epic-length western novel. Good thing the director decided to continue the movie project but had Tarantino pursued the "The Hateful Eight" novel, it will surely sell like hotcakes.

Quentin Tarantino's inspiration

Howard Hawk's Western Rio Bravo is Tarantino's inspiration for the premise of his new movie. The multi-awarded director is known to pay tribute to old movies and Hawk's classic is just one of them.

Movie uses Ultra Panavision 70

Tarantino will be hitting a milestone with "The Hateful Eight" as films it using Ultra Panavision 70. It is a long-dormant widescreen format known for crisp, ultra-wide images. The last movie to use this is technology was 1966's "Khartoum."

Despite the script leak last year and the non attachment Christoph Waltz and Viggo Mortensen, critics still think that Quentin Tarantino's "The Hateful Eight" will still nab awards once released.
