Chinese phone manufacturer Xiaomi is set to formally launch the Xiaomi Mi5 this july.
Reports indicate that Xiaomi will finally launch the much awaited budget phone with high-end specs, the Xiaomi Mi5, in July as a follow-up to its predecessor which launched around the same month last year.
Furthermore, leaks of a larger, 6-inch version of the new flagship phone touted as the Xiaomi Mi5 Plus, as well as the Xiaomi Mi5, were seen on the Chinese social media site Weibo.
Previously, it was thought that Xiaomi would formally launch the product in Singapore, Malaysia, Canada, US, Germany, and UK by June. By July, India, Indonesia, Australia, and Russia get to see it next. However, company CEO and founder Lei Jun once said that its R & D process up to 18 months, the project has gone through six generations machine, explaining the push back to July.
For specs, the upcoming Xiaomi Mi5 is a 5.2-inch phone with a thickness 5.1mm. It has a 16MP main camera and an 8MP front clicker.
Under the hood, its Android 5.0 OS is powered by a Qualcomm MSM8994 Snapdragon 810 chipset that has two CPUs, a Quad-core 1.5 GHz Cortex-A53 and a Quad-core 2 GHz Cortex-A57, and an Adreno 430 GPU. It has 4GB RAM and an internal 32GB storage. It is not yet confirmed if it would support microSD expansion and what the size of its battery would be.
Xiaomi is expected to flex its muscles and conquer non-Asian markets, as it already has quite a following especially in Southeast Asia. That's why the handset maker is seen going release the newest model of its former flagship phone in unfamiliar territories first, while expecting their popularity to remain in places where they already gained a following.
The company's products are considered the alternative to handsets released by US's Apple and Korea's Samsung. The Xiaomi Mi5 set to continue this role once it goes out.
