Martin Scorsese's 'Silence' offers a religiously captivating and intriguing plot starring no one else but Peter Parker himself, Andrew Garfield. The once Marvel star is breaking new grounds and embracing a different side of his acting career as he stars in this 1966 novel by Shusako Endo. The film is slated for a 2016 release in the US.
Andrew Garfield may have lost his chance to play the iconic Spider-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but he's definitely pursuing a deeper path in his acting career. He currently leads the movie 'Silence' and is in in a genre far from what we have seen him earlier in films. He plays the role of Father Rodrigues a Portugese Jesuit missionary in search of their mentor in 17th century Japan. He faces persecution together with Adam Driver due to their faith and religious beliefs. The Japanese Government during that time is in search of western influences and will not stop until they are done 'purging' religious beliefs far from what their country believes in.
Martin Scorsese is the director of the 'Silence' film and is known for his other religious movies like the movie "Kundun" and the "Last Temptation of Christ." The movie is filmed in a less urban setting in Taiwan and features Scorsese's prowess when it comes to cinematic films. He shares his experience in filing in such conditions and how this new experience offered a different setting, far from the ones he is used to having. "I'm known for making films that are urban, that take place mainly in apartments, hotels, bars, churches, that sort of thing, for the most part, so for me to be able to sit and watch a scene and hear the nature, the bird calls, the animals, which set the time, which set the clock of life in a way, the real pace of life, not the cray one with all our gadgets, this has been an immersion into another world and it's something that I'm just blessed to have experienced."
The film "Silence" is considered as a dream film project about faith and religion. The plot inspired from a novel created by Shusako Endo in 1966 has long been waiting behind Scorsese's creative mind and has now finally manage to become a reality in Taiwan. The film was entirely shot in different areas in Taipei and became a reality due to the subsidy and support provided by the Taipei City Government and Taipei Film Commission. It is also partly finances by Catchplay Company and will be done filming by May 15.
Andrew Garfield leads the 'Silence' movie together with Liam Neeson, Tadanobu Asano, Adam Driver and Issei Ogata. The Jack Cocks and Martin Scorsese film is scheduled for a US release on 2016.
