Tom Hardy is in a state of ambivalence on which goodness he shall take the lead role on - "Splinter Cell the Movie" or "The Punisher".
The action star is currently promoting "Mad Max: Fury Road" and has been interviewed by Collider about superhero movies. His next role was supposed to be Rick Flagg in "Suicide Squad" but had to drop out because "...Alejando has overshot by three months in Calgary, so we've got to go back out to Patagonia or Alaska to continue shooting 'The Revenant' which has turned into a much bigger beast than we thought, but that also looks exceptional," reasons the 37-year-old actor.
In response to Warner Brothers developing new superhero movies, Hardy expressed his desire for "The Punisher" but it seems he had to miss out on that again as he was previously set to act for the film adaptation of "Splinter Cell the Movie".
"I want The Punisher... I want The Punisher, or Splinter Cell, I want something...I don't know what I want."
His confidence as "The Punisher" is not on par though as he verbalizes, "I'm not big enough to be The Punisher, I'm 5'9." Ray Stevenson who portrayed the bulky Punisher in "The Punisher: War Zone" stands 6'4.
"Splinter Cell the Movie" was, in antecedent, set for theaters release this year but as the script was retrieved to be re-written, the movie development took longer than expected.
In the movie, Hardy takes the lead role of a badass Navy Seal covert operative named Sam Fisher who works in a Top Secret National Security Agency branch called the "Third Echelon".
It is interesting to point out that Director Doug Liman of "The Bourne Identity" and Screen Writer Sheldon Turner (X-Men: First Class, Up in the Air) also worked with Hardy on the postponed "Everest" by Sony as it happened to have the same title as Universal's.
The trio is still together for Ubisoft's award-winning stealth video game-turned-film "Splinter Cell the Movie" since November 2012.
