Microsoft makes Windows 10 as their last operating system; no more Patch Tuesday

By

Microsoft said that the Windows 10 would be their last operating system once it gets released on summer for PCs. The OS would bring new innovations and will be updated in an ongoing manner, instead of updateing the monthly Patch Tuesday. With Windows 10, the company intends to show a continuous value for the consumers and business customers.

Microsoft implements a new system

Microsoft has an implemented patching system, called Patch Tuesday, in which the company releases an update for their operating system every month. This is bound to change as the upcoming Windows 10 would stop Patch Tuesday and implement a new system where users can update their machines the soonest.

Microsoft executive vice president of operating systems Terry Myerson reportedly said that that the company will be putting into effect a "steady stream of innovation over time every month."

This could basically mean that once an update is ready, it would be released immediately and will not have to wait for Patch Tuesday, which usually happens on the second Tuesday of the month.

Windows 10 is the last version

This was announced during Microsoft's Ignite conference saying that the Windows 10 would be the last version of the Windows operating system, with Jerry Nixon stating that there will be no future launchings of new OS versions. He said, "Right now we're releasing Windows 10, and because Windows 10 is the last version of Windows, we're all still working on Windows 10."

The Windows operating system would be relying heavily on updates compared to the usual trend of releasing "shiny, new versions," and since Microsoft ended Patch Tuesday.

Nixon revealed that Microsoft secretly made Windows 8.1 as the base for Windows 10. With it, the operating system would be making regular updates instead of introducing newer versions.

The company's spokesperson also said that "Windows 10 will be delivered as a service bringing new innovations and updates in an ongoing manner, with continuous value for our consumer and business customers."

Microsoft tests Windows 10 preview builds

Currently, preview builds of Windows 10 are being tested by Microsoft, and they are also developing apps such as Xbox and Mail through regular monthly updates. Microsoft Office for Windows 10 is also going to have regular updates, and would no longer release newer versions of it.

On 2016, Microsoft will release another Windows 10 update codenamed as Windows Redstone, and would not be Windows 11 or anything else.

Windows 10 is slated for release by summer on PCs. For mobiles, tablets, HoloLens and Xbox One, it would be later this year.
