X-Men: Apocalypse to feature newly-bald James McAvoy reprising his role as Professor X

By

James McAvoy is lopping off his locks in preparation for his upcoming role as Professor X in the highly-anticipated X-Men: Apocalypse. Fans of the X-Men comic books and even of the less heralded TV series have grown to become familiar with Professor X's bald head, but that specific look hasn't exactly been prominently featured in previous movies from the franchise.

James McAvoy, as Professor X, has showcased a full head of hair in the two previous films from the franchise, according to IGN. It's unclear as of now whether the movie will depict the hair loss as something that came about naturally, or whether it was caused by something else entirely.

The first picture of McAvoy now sporting the shaved head was shared on Instagram by X-Men: Apocalypse director Bryan Singer. Now, fans will have to wait to see just exactly how and why Professor X lost his locks.

X-Men: Apocalyspe is currently filming in Montreal. The upcoming film will bring together many of the memorable characters from both X-Men: First Class and X-Men: Days of Future Past, according to Empire Online.

Reprising their roles for the film will be Michael Fassbender and Nicholas Hoult, playing Magneto and Beast respectively. Also reprising her role as Mystique for the film will be Jennifer Lawrence, but the actress has also gone on record saying this will be last time she portrays the character on film, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Hoult has also said that the upcoming film might be his last, but unlike Lawrence, he has said that he would not rule out a return. X-Men: Apocalypse will also star a number of new characters, including Tye Sheridan as Cyclops, Sophie Turner starring as Jean Grey, and Alexandra Shipp taking on the role of Storm.

Oscar Isaac will star as Apocalypse, the main villain, in the film. X-Men: Apocalypse is set to hit theaters on May 26 of next year.
