The Maze Runner 2: Scorch Trials has been announced to release just a year ago after its first and only predecessor made box office blockbuster. The 20th Century Fox is already looking forward to a faster follow-up to the upcoming movie having the sequel in the development phase.
Author James Dashner already penned Maze Runner: The Death Cure meant to follow through at a future date as accounted by Variety.
It makes sense for Fox to get the gears ready even before the part two of the movie hits cinemas four months away with the generally good reviews from critics that the first movie in the franchise have achieved. The question is whether the current movie in talk can live up to the expectations that its parent film set in Hollywood.
The movie starring Dylan O'Brien grossed $32.5 million in the United States and garnered another $37.6 million overseas with a budget of $34 Million, completely beating movie releases in the same starting line namely "A Walk among Tombstones" and "This Is Where I Leave You."
The plot of the saga continues with Thomas (Dylan O'Brien) and his fellow Gladers finding themselves facing another difficult challenge. The troop is to search for clues about the mysterious and powerful organization known as WCKD.
They are then taken to the Scorch which is a desolate landscape filled with unimaginable obstacles. Teaming up with resistance fighters, the Gladers take on WCKD's vastly superior forces and uncover its shocking plans for them all.
The epic Maze Runner 2: Scorch Trials is directed by Wes Ball who is commended for managing to keep the first film in its minimum budget. The cast includes Dylan O'Brien, Thomas Brodie-Sangster, Kaya Scodelario, Ki Hong Lee, Patricia Clarkson, Aidan Gillen, Rosa Salazar, and Jacob Lofland.
As the adventure in The Maze Runner 2: Scorch Trials gets more exciting, so are its expectations getting heavier in the shoulder - and its release date on September 18, 2015 as it will be facing stiffer competition from action-adventure "Everest," which features Jake Gyllenhaal, and an untitled Whitey Bulger biopic with Johnny Depp.
