‘The D Train’ Movie Update: Jack Black calls comeback movie ‘cheap’ as co-star Kathryn Hahn says high school is hell

"The D Train" serves as Jack Black's comeback to the big screen as he stars in the indie film as an adult that barely moved on from high school. He also produces the film, which he describes as a 'cheapo' and also stars James Marsden and Kathryn Hahn.

Jack Black's last mainstream offering was four years ago. Months before he makes a big screen return with a major film on October titled, "Goosebumps," the actor stars in "The D Train," an indie film about a "lovable loser curmudgeon" named Dan (Black) and his pursuit to become a cool guy by bringing back his high school star and schoolmate Oliver Lawless (James Marsden) for their reunion.

Oliver, unlike Dan, has done everything to run away from high school and became a commercial endorser. Dan thought that Oliver already made it big in Hollywood but unknown to him, the guy he idolizes so much is just still struggling for fame.

Jack Black admitted that his new movie "The D Train" is just a cheap film he produced, which only took 21 days to shoot due to budget constraints. The comedian however, boasted of the great scenes they have produced in just a short time, including an intriguing sex scene with James Marsden. The actor even watched the film five times already prior its release and loved it.

Kathryn Hahn, who plays Dan's wife, Stacey, only has praises for Black's performance in the film. Hahn said that the actor made the work easy for everyone especially that the movie is about high school drama and reunion. The actress said that she has already been in a reunion and admits how painful it was.

"I think there's a ton of pressure because, wow, it's a chance to reinvent yourself. It's a chance to show your idealized self to the people that know you at your, like, most vulnerable, youngest, core center. Like it's a way of, I mean, it's horrifying. It's a ball and it's horrifying. That's how mine was."

A lot of people might find Jack Black's new indie film "The D Train" relatable, especially those who have experienced high school dramas. The film, which also stars James Marsden and Kathryn Hahn, is distributed by IFC Films and is already out in the theaters.
