For sure, Michael Schumacher is being given the best of care -perhaps more than any mere mortal on Planet Earth. Currently, the seven-time Formula One World Champion is administered by a 15-man medical team who has made it their sole mission to bring the champion from West Germany back to his old form. But his chances, after his 2013 skiing accident at the Alps, are slim at best. He remains unable to speak, confined to a slow-moving wheelchair - a far cry from his heyday when he ruled the world of racing.
As it turns out, Schumacher's condition is taking a toll on his €700-million business empire now being overseen by Corinna Schumacher, his wife. Lately, it was Michael's private jet worth over €34m that had to go, sold in an effort to bring in much-needed cash.
But it may not end there. As reportedly, Corinna is also planning to sell their chalet in Merebel, France, notes The Daily Star.
What is most saddening is that all the support and all the care maybe to naught. Even with a 15-man medical staff in a special medical suite at his Switzerland mansion at his bidding, Michael Schumacher is nowhere near fully recovery.
And his wife knows it. All the riches that the world champion has accumulated maybe giving him needed support for now. But these material treasures could be but a faded memory to him as Michael Schumacher may never recover fully to enjoy them. Ever.
However, hope of a different kind rises. As many may have known, a different legacy, one that cannot be tainted by his life-changing injury is shaping up: Mick Schumacher, his son.
Recently, Michael Schumacher's 16-year old son dubbed Mick Junior is turning heads, attracting media's most-prized attention. For sure, the Schumacher magic is working on him.
Quite a contradiction, though. His name is on the rise even when he initially chose not to carry the Schumacher moniker when he started to join the racing fray in 2008. Utilizing Mick Betsch instead.
But it's different today. Mick Junior is slowly taking on the burden of being Michael Schumacher's son. As a result, media frenzy swirling on him are rubbing in many young, wannabe Formula One champions to date.
Ex F1 driver Jean Alesi is taking notice, for instance. He should as his son Giuliano Alesi is also following his path, winning two victories during the recent French F4 Championships.
However, Alesi's recent win was not a surefire guarantee of stardom. Still it was Mick Junior who was the darling of the press, his exploits devoured by mainstream media during Bugatti Circuit's second round. And not Alesi.
But Jean Alesi understands, treating the younger Schumacher as his own. He just fear that all the attention is counter-productive.
"I also understand the special situation that Michael is in now has had an effect on all of this attention - I think he (Michael) would not have allowed this media exposure," Alesi detailed.
Could be. But we'll never know, given the circumstances. If only Michael Schumacher can speak up.
