Marvel reveals Lady Thor's identity with a familiar twist; Will she make her debut in the MCU after the conclusion of Thor 3: Ragnarok?

Marvel finally reveals the identity of the mysterious woman worthy to wield Thor's Mjolnir when the comics hit the stands on Wednesday in the Marvel series Thor (2014) issue #8, written by Jason Aaron and illustrated by Russel Dauterman. Will the new Lady Thor see screen time in Marvel's Cinematic Universe?

Warning: The following paragraphs contain spoilers to Marvel's Thor (2014)

Marvel first introduced the character of a new Thor last October in issue #1, following the events after the God of Thunder was engaged in a battle on the moon with S.H.I.E.L.D.'s Nick Fury. Fury was responsible for Thor's predicament when he whispered something to the God of Thunder that caused him to drop the mighty Mjolnir on the moon's surface. Weakened and unworthy, Thor has been unable to lift his mighty hammer since. Soon, Armies of Frost Giants froze the ocean and with the help of the Dark Elf Malekith, began to take over the world. Armies of Asgard were frozen in place, and the Avengers were met with the same fate. Only the God - or in this case, Goddess - of Thunder can defeat the might of the Jotun Giants.

Marvel's official reveal of the identity of the Goddess of Thunder for issue #8 was pre-empted due to a leak in the information a day before the comics hit the market. In the least effort to strife the leak, Marvel decided to officially reveal the identity of Lady Thor through The New York Times' ArtsBeat.

In Marvel's story arc for Thor (2014) issue #8, the new heroine is revealed to be Dr. Jane Foster, Thor's former love who has been battling breast cancer. Jason Aaron states that "Jane Foster has been part of the Thor comics and the Thor mythology from almost the very beginning". Aaron further explains that the "very act of picking up this hammer, of becoming Thor, is killing her. Where we go from here is the real story."

Aaron further emphasizes that the new Lady Thor has inspired more women and young girls to follow the comic book world, and have noticed that more and more comics have been recently released that are appealing to the feminine audience. Aaron has also been getting recognition with non-comic book fans for his creation of Lady Thor.

"Usually when I say I write comics for a living, I kind of get blank stares. "Now, when I say I write Thor, they say, ‘You're the lady Thor guy?' Yup. That's me."

What exciting new saga will fans expect from the reveal? How will it change the MCU at this point? Will we see Natalie Portman replace Chris Hemsworth as the new Thor? Fans further speculate on how the Marvel Cinematic Universe will progress at the point of the reveal. Although Chris Hemsworth's Thor is solidified in the upcoming Thor and Avengers movies, Natalie Portman's Dr. Jane Foster is an exciting new twist to the MCU.

Thor (2014) issue #8 hits stands and digital download on May 13, 2015 with the full story reveal of the new Lady Thor, penned by Jason Aaron and inked by Russel Dauterman.
