'Secrets and Lies' Season 2 Spoilers: Crawfords Not Returning For Season 2; Whose Murder Is Cornell Solving Next?

By

Following the remarkable first season finale of the drama series "Secrets and Lies", ABC network has finally green lighted the show for a second run. However, its fans should not cling to the first season cast as Detective Andrea Cornell will be the only one returning in show's sophomore year.

Though it took a while, the "Secrets and Lies" avid fans and viewers finally received their most-awaited go-signal for the drama's season renewal last Thursday night. But along with this good news, also comes a sad one. Ben (Ryan Philippe), Dave (Dan Fogler), Jess (Natalie Marquez) and Natalie (Indiana Evans) of the Crawford family are not going to return for the show's second season. This means Juliette Lewis, who portrayed Detective Andrea Cornell, will be the only one reprisinge her role in Season 2.

The first season of the drama revolved around Tom Murphy's murder. Detective Cornell suspected Ben to be Tom's killer but found out later on that it was his young daughter Abby (Belle Shouse) who did it. Unfortunately, the detective's discovery came too late as Ben already admitted the crime to protect his daughter. Though Cornell knew that it wasn't his fault, she was still forced to arrest Ben in the season finale.

Although Ben did not get some closure on the story that season 1 focused on, Philippe, who played the role, still congratulated the crew and his co-star Juliette Lewis for the show's second chapter. "I'm so happy and excited for all involved that 'Secrets & Lies' will return for another season," the 40-year-old actor stated. "Congrats to Juliette, Barbie Kligman, Aaron Kaplan & the writers."

According to an insider, that Philippe's departure along with the others has always been the plan ever since.

Despite the sad news the absence of the Crawford family brings, at least it leaves the fans a new season with a whole new thrilling and gripping murder mystery. With Detective Andrea Cornell left on the show, the question is: whose murder is she solving next?
