The "Star Wars" frenzy is heating up as the premiere this year is forthcoming, and as an addition to that, a concept art of actress Lupita Nyong'o in her first look as the pirate alien Maz Kabata has surfaced on the Web. While the said concept art doesn't really reveal the final look of Nyong'o as the alien character, fans can still have an idea of how the actress will look like.
Recently, it was Annie Leibovitz's coverage for Vanity Fair magazine that has initially divulged "Star Wars: Episode VII - The Force Awakens" photographs. One of those promo images features Academy Award winner Lupita Nyong'o in a motion capture rig, which has piqued interest among fans. It was also then disclosed that she will be playing the pirate alien Maz Kanata. The coverage implied that the alien is an authoritative of some kind and that her "castle" is filled with all kinds of "galactic travelers, smugglers, and other assorted riffraff."
And while the Vanity Fair article has not given much emphasis on the alien species of the upcoming film, a concept art of Nyong'o portraying Maz Kanata has now been unveiled thanks to Indie Revolver. As shown on the image, it looks like the actress' features will be warped to fit the pirate alien. And since Maz Kanata is an alien character, the production would need a lot of CGI effects to transform Nyong'o into the role. It is very apparent because of the character's extremely long neck, a wide and flat face, and beady eyes, which would be very difficult to do even with a heavy make up.
Likewise, it was speculated that Lupita Nyong'o's character has been referred to as "Rose" for codename purposes on set and around the production offices to prevent leak. Furthermore, although the concept art is not yet the final look of the "12 Years a Slave" actress, Indie Revolver is claiming that her portrayal as Maz Kanata was already briefly seen in the film's second teaser trailer. It was in the part that she is passing Anakin's lightsaber to Leia.
J.J. Abrams' "Star Wars: Episode VII: The Force Awakens" is slated to release on December 18 this year. The stellar cast includes newcomers and old actors such as Daisy Ridley's Rey, John Boyega's Finn, Gwendoline Christie's Captain Phasma, Oscar Isaac's Poe Dameron, Harrison Ford's Han Solo, Carrie Fisher's Princess Leia, and Mark Hamill's Luke Skywalker.
Very well. Ms. Lupita Nyong'o's alien character might as well just a puppet. Now, what do you think would the production do to make her fit Maz Kabata? Will she be transformed via a makeup job? Share us your views today.
