‘Star Wars: Episode IX’ Update: Rumors Claim Joss Whedon to Direct Movie Not Legit

By

With Josh Trank leaving the second anthology film of the upcoming stand-alone "Star Wars Anthology Series," fans must have been disappointed again as Joss Whedon was rumored to be directing the "Star Wars: Episode IX," which seems apparently unfounded. The said rumors circulated earlier this week that Whedon "is a lock" for the film, which is expected to hit cinemas in 2019. And as much as we hate to break it down, the speculations don't have truthful basis.

The said report initially came from The Get Your Geek On podcast (via moviepilot.net). And to back it up, the same subject matter was also speculated by website MakingStarWars.net, which in the past has gained credibility after reporting that JJ Abrams will be directing the forthcoming "Star Wars: The Force Awakens." The website has also implied that the rumor is legit.

While that is stimulating, Joss Whedon was reported last week that he will not be directing Marvel movies anymore and will focus on smaller projects after his massive contribution to "Avengers: Age of Ultron" that is still hitting the international box office records. Since "Star Wars" is owned by Disney, and Disney owns Marvel, this might be a major factor to hinder the rumored project.

Meanwhile, as early as now, we are not encouraging your hopes to get that high. Joss Whedon directing the film is a big news as he made the impossible in 2012's "The Avengers." One thing more, since MoviePilot and Get Your Geek On are the "sources" of the rumors and are the first ones to speculate the unimaginable, the two have now expressed disclaimers following the disseminated information.

Inquistr reports that MoviePilot has added a disclaimer on the article regarding Joss Whedon directing "Star Wars: Episode IX," but it looks like, the published article was already deleted by site editors or even the author. Anyhow, the disclaimer reads: "It has come to our attention that multiple sites have picked up this story [Joss Whedon is Directing Star Wars Episode IX] and quoted Moviepilot as the source. However, this is an independent, unverified creator post and does not reflect the views or writing of the Moviepilot staff." And to make the rumors defective, Get Your Geek On also posted on their Facebook page that they never said the same thing.

So there it goes, at least the consolation is we didn't believe the word spread. For now, let's just wait for the official announcement from the producer Disney. Anyway, do you still want Joss Whedon to direct the "Star Wars: Episode IX"? How about some other possible directors? Share your love by commenting on the post today.
