Ubisoft's Rainbow Six Siege series has the potential to become the best-selling first person shooter game in the company's history, even surpassing Far Cry 4.
This bold statement was issued by CEO Yves Guillermot during a conference call with investors Tuesday - May 12. Ubisoft hopes to attain this goal by investing heavily into post-launch support for the Rainbow Six Siege series. Though they understand that Rainbow Six Siege will not surpass sale figures of Far Cry 4 right away, rather they believe that it will reach that point over a long period of time. This means that the company is expecting the game to have a much longer life than current games.
CFO Alain Martinez adds that Rainbow Six games traditionally sells three million units but because of the game's replayability and multiplayer, it may have the potential to do better than Far Cry over its lifetime. Far Cry 4 has already exceeded the seven million mark since the game's launch in late 2014.
Guillermo seems confident that the game will continue to live for a long time since they will be introducing new content on a regular basis. This translates to Ubisoft not necessarily planning on releasing more Rainbow Six sequels, but plans to provide more support to the base game of Rainbow Six Siege with DLC and content updates.
The game is now available for pre-order via the Uplay shop. The limited edition comes with the game, a collector's box, Gold skins for all in-game weapons and a 120-page Tactical guide offering information on every Counter Terrorist Unit, Operator, weapon and map.
Ubisoft's Rainbow Six Siege is scheduled for release around fall this year. The game will be available for PC, PS4 and Xbox One. Fans are expected to hear more news of this during the E3 conference next month.
