After the success of the 2013 science fiction monster film "Pacific Rim," the famed director Guillermo Del Toro has returned on the business of horror with his upcoming Victorian-era ghost film "Crimson Peak," and as the debut is forthcoming, Del Toro dished out details about the movie including the descent of the story and what inspired him to do it. A new poster and a second teaser were also unveiled this week.
The upcoming classic Gothic and romance movie highlights horrors of a haunted house and the ghosts lurking about it. Its plot revolves around Edith Cushing (Mia Wasikowska), who is an aspiring author. She fells in love with outsider Sir Thomas Sharpe (Tom Hiddleston), whom brings her into a house of horror. There, she meets Thomas' disdainful sister Lady Lucille (Jessica Chastain). What Edith doesn't know is that Chastain's character appears to be keeping a dark secret from her. In addition, "Pacific Rim" actor Charlie Hunnam also joins the cast and reunites with Guillermo Del Toro. However, in a report by Details, Hunnam told that he is not the star of the movie.
Producing the flick for Del Toro must be challenging as he has focused on science fiction films in the recent years. And as to give some explanation on his latest movie's mainstay, the "Pan's Labyrinth" director sat down with Press Association (via Telegraph and Argus UK), to dish out some details about the Gothic movie. Del Toro exclaimed that "Crimson Peak" was inspired by the fact that he is "more terrified of living human beings than the dead ones." He also admitted that it took nine years to finish this project.
It was already established that his "Crimson Peak" is dark Gothic with romance, to which he gladly explained what inspired him to pursue the story. "I'm an avid reader of Gothic romance in the most traditional sense of them - darker, brooding, unsettling stories about star-crossed lovers ...," he admitted. Likewise, he mused that he's always wanted to create one of those. And since his latest film is horror, Del Toro stressed that the production used real performers to create the spooky characters through CGI instead of a green screen.
And because of that, the performance of the characters must be something movie goers should watch out. Meanwhile, to give a head-start on what the public can expect, a second teaser accompanied by a new poster was revealed this week by Universal and Legendary Pictures. The said trailer promises lots of creeps as its features Mia Wasikowska's character being haunted by ghouls. On the other hand, the new poster showcases lost-looking Edith holding candelabra in front of haunted house backdrop.
So there. Make sure to watch the new trailer as it will surely bring about some creeps! What are your expectations so far for Guillermo Del Toro's "Crimson Peak"? Are you hyped to be spooked? Watch this flick on October 16 as it stars Jessica Chastain (Interstellar), Charlie Hunnam (Sons of Anarchy), Tom Hiddleston (Thor: The Dark World), and Mia Wasikowska (Maps to the Stars).
