Although the show might have detoured a little bit from its original French version "Les Revenants", A&E's supernatural drama "The Returned" still wasn't stopped from airing its season finale last Monday. The supernatural suspense series has concluded its first run with Rowan's unplanned pregnancy and Simon's odd premonition about the wedding.
In the closing moments of show, Simon goes back to the valley town after getting a vision of the dam's destruction and the flooding that comes afterwards. After coming back to his senses, he realized that everything he saw was just purely imagination. However, Simon took it as a forewarning of what's about to happen which made him rush back to the mountain to warn everyone especially his former fiancée Rowan who just recently discovered her pregnancy after her back-from-the-dead fling with Simon.
The eventful last episode of the drama's first season have disappointed a few fans as it diverted away from what happened in the original French version. However, "The Returned" developer and producer Carlton Cuse have already vowed these differences earlier which he confirmed to have started in its 6th episode.
"The French show became very genre, incident-heavy at the end of its eight episodes. We take a different turn at that point. While we start at a similar place, the show is fairly, distinctively different by the end of its first season," he said.
Though it has an original version, Cuse emphasized that "there won't be any roadmap" anymore once the first season of "The Returned" is over as "it is just a seed" of the original show which is expected to be "its own thing" later on.
With the show's conclusion of its first season, and producer Carlton Cuse's revelation of a whole new second season, it is uncertain what is next for the characters in season 2. Will Simon try to stop Rowan's wedding? Will the Rowan and Simon's unborn baby bring them back together? Is the baby Rowan is carrying a normal one or a returned as well?
