It was previously reported that the alternative metal band Deftones is gearing up to release their eighth studio album this year, and while the major details are under wraps, lead singer Chino Moreno has recently spilled that guitarist Jerry Cantrell from Seattle band Alice in Chains will be having a guest appearance in the album. Moreno also teased that some tracks from their unreleased record "Eros'" might appear in the new LP.
Previously, it was in an interview with BBC Radio 1's "Rock Show With Daniel P Carter" that Deftones frontman Chino Moreno has spilled the new album's tentative release date on September 25 this year. He also detailed the progress of the album saying that it is becoming good. Likewise, Moreno admitted that he has been recording from his home studio in Oregon, slowly but surely.
And now that we learned the current status of the record, Moreno dropped a major detail on the recording process. In a radio interview with 92.3 KOMP FM hosts Carlota and Sparks at this weekend's Rock In Rio USA festival in Las Vegas, the lead singer revealed that guitarist Jerry Cantrell of the band Alice in Chains has set down a guest guitar solo in the forthcoming album. "Jerry is on the [new Deftones] album," Moreno said.
This participation of Cantrell in the Deftones' album must really be special as the frontman gushed about how he felt when he first heard the recorded song. "It's awesome. It's like you're hearing a Deftones song, but all of a sudden, a little bit of Alice in Chains seeps its way in there, and it's kind of neat. I mean, me, as a fan, I was just sitting back and a little tear came out of my eye," Moreno stressed.
The new LP will consist of sixteen songs and is once again being produced by Matt Hyde. Moreno is pretty confident that it will be a great record. To keep it stirring, those 16 tracks might still get an addition as the vocalist admitted in an interview with Rolling Stone that he's contemplating to add some songs from the band's unreleased record "Eros." "I think it should be released, but we don't have any definite plans," Moreno mused.
As for the song writing and the recording process, he also told RollingStone.com that the songs are amazing so far and in fact, they wrote the pieces in a "cool way" as a group. Aside from Deftones' summer tour with rock band Incubus, Moreno's band will also be performing its 1997 album "Around The Fur" on June 18 to 21 at the Amnesia Rockfest in Montebello, Quebec, Canada.
The Alice in Chains and Deftones collaboration sounds good enough, doesn't it? What are your expectations so far from this new record? Will it be a winner? Make sure to check this new LP on your favorite record stores this fall!
