Dragon Ball Super Update: Goku's voice Masako Nozawa wants bigger Dragon Ball family; Creator Akira Toriyama returns to series

By

Dragon Ball Super's voice actress for Goku, Gohan, and Goten has disclosed she wants the series to expand the stories of Goku and his two sons into a bigger future Dragon Ball family for the new series that is being led again by original creator Akira Toriyama.

Nozawa talked to Toei Japan on "Goku Day" about her hopes that Dragon Ball Super does not only focus on Goku, Gohan, and Goten. Nozawa wants the show to instead have more family members in the future, disclosed Attack of the Fan Boy.

Toei Animation's media release reveals original manga creator Akira Toriyama will indeed return to supervise the series that is returning to television after 18 years.

The new Dragon Ball setting is after Dragon Ball Z's defeat of Majin Buu in the 1989-1996 series but before the short-lived Dragon Ball GT series of 1996-97, according to IDigital Times.

IDigital Times also reports the Dragon Ball GT was not based on the manga series and was rumoured to be aired without Toriyama's approval. The new Dragon Ball Super can then be considered as the proper continuation of the original series.

Fuji Television producer Osamu Nozaki disclosed the appearance of new and fiercer villains in the series to Anime News Network saying, "As I read the plot [of the series] I've already received from Akira Toriyama, my dreams for this begin to expand. An enemy even stronger than Buu or Freeza may appear..."

Nozaki explains that Toriyama "has developed a plot that's not only a dream come true for Dragon Ball's millions of fans, but one that will foster in a new generation of viewers." Nozaki adds, "Having loved Dragon Ball since childhood, it is very exciting to be a part of this project."

Toei reveals that Toriyama will draw on the historic past of the Dragon Ball Z series "to create a bold, new universe welcoming to fans and endearing to new viewers."

The new anime installment of the Dragon Ball Z franchise, will present new challenges to Goku as he strives to maintain earth's fragile peace after the defeat of Majin Buu.

Dragon Ball is touted as one of the most popular anime series of all time seen in more than 70 countries. It was originally a manga in Weekly Shonen Jump (published from SHUEISHA Inc.) in 1984 and has sold over 230 million copies of its comic books.

Dragon Ball Super premieres this July on Fuji Television.
