Attack on Titan Season 2 (Shingeki no Kyojin) will definitely return to the small screen in 2016, according to series director Tesuro Araki.
The continuing television adaptation of the popular manga series written and illustrated by Hajime Isayama will again be voiced by Yuki Kaji (Eren Jaeger), Marina Inoue (Armin Arlert), and Yui Ishikawa (Mikasa Ackermann).
Attack on Titan Season 1 covered more than half of the manga material. The production team is reportedly waiting until more chapters are published to allow for more coverage in Season 2.
Attack on Titan Season 2 is anticipated to show less filler episodes, a production direction that would be welcomed by the manga series followers who want the series adaptation to be faithful to the 15 tankōbon volumes.
However, certain quarters are expressing dismay about the 2 live action movies scheduled for release in the United States before the second season comes back on television as possibly disappointing fans.
The two Attack on Titan movies will be released covering all 25 episodes of the TV series and are sheduled for release in US cinemas this summer and fall. Comic Book Resources disclosed the first feature was actually released in Japan last November 2014, with the second one coming this June 27.
Christian Post reports though that "the news has been greeted by mixed reactions from fans, some of whom predict the live action adaptations may tarnish the image of the beloved anime series."
The first live action film to be seen in US theaters this summer is titled "Attack on Titan: Crimson Bow and Arrow." The first of the 2-part movie adaptations covers series episodes 1-13. The IMDb movie synopsis describes a dystopian world where a young man vows to eliminate the giant humanoid creatures that threaten the remnants of humanity.
The second film anticipated to be released in the fall is titled "Attack on Titan: Wings of Freedom." The 2nd part of the movie adaptation covers series episodes 14-25 and is listed by IMDb with a plot showing the Trost District reclaimed from the Titans, and Eren mentored by Captain Levi and his squad to teach him how to master his mysterious abilities.
The full-length trailer of the second film has just been released showing a female Titan battling with the lead characters and wreaking havoc on human villages.
Attack on Titan Season 2 will be released by Shingeki.tv and streamed live on FUNimation.
