Microsoft Lumia 940 and 940 XL will most likely have a post-summer release after Windows 10 for mobile has been finally developed.
Much talk has been traded in tech circles about when the new Microsoft flagship devices will actually be launched and it seems fans will have to wait a bit longer.
The new Lumia upper and mid-range devices are touted to be the first smartphones to be equipped with the new Windows 10 for mobile. PC Advisor reports that the Windows 10 is "No longer just a desktop OS, Windows 10 will also run on phones and tablets and the Microsoft Lumia 940 (codenamed Talkman) and 940 XL (codenamed Cityman) will be among the first Windows Phones to run Windows 10."
Gospel Herald, however, predicts delays of the release due to the late arrival of Windows 10. "This does mean that the smartphones will have a later release date, as the actual release date of Windows 10 is pretty vague with 'Sometime in July 2015'. This would mean that the 940 and 940 XL should have a July/August release date."
Microsoft only started welcoming developers for Windows 10 at the Build Developers Conference. Terry Myerson, Microsoft executive vice president for operating systems announced that Windows 10 will be available this summer. Myerson further disclosed that most of the features will be available at launch and others will roll out later in the year. "The beauty of launching Windows 10 as a service means we can deliver new technology as soon as it is ready," Myerson declared.
Windows 10 new features and innovations were showcased at Build including Microsoft Edge, the new browser built for doing, with built-in note-taking and sharing, a reading pane for no distractions, as well as integration with Cortana. Continuum for phones enabled by Windows 10 allows the use of the smartphone like a personal computer.
PC Advisor also reports of a Phone Arena source leaking factory specifications of the new Microsoft 940 and 940 X Lumia smartphones aside from the Windows 10 operating system. The factory sheet screenshot indicates 5in full-HD (1920x1080) screen with Gorilla Glass 4 for 940, while 940 XL will sport 5.7in Quad HD (2560x1440) screen.
