Apple’s Advisory to 2015 MacBook Pro Buyer Strong hint of Imminent Refresh? Broadwell and Skylake Chips Now Available for Orders

By

It seems that Apple is about to make a refresh of their 15-inch Retina MacBook Pro as more retailers are delaying the delivery even as far as two to three weeks, which is around Apple's WWDC event. However, a customer who purchased the same model allegedly received an advisory that his order would arrive on June 9, which is after the start of Apple's WWDC on June 8. Further, online retailers also began listing Intel Broadwell Core i7-5775C, Core i5-5675C, Skylake Core i7-6700, and Core i5-6500 for orders.

Online retailers delay 15-inch MacBook Pro deliveries

Apple increased the delivery schedule of the MacBook Pro around two to three weeks, implying that there might be an updated 2015 MacBook Pro model in the upcoming Worldwide Developers Conference.

Various indirect channels and some retail stores are reportedly having shortages of the 15-inch MacBook Pro models, and Apple officially started "discontinuing many of those CTO (non-standard configurations) models while preparing final shipments of the two standard 15-inch MacBook configurations."

MacMall was said to be completely" having no 15-inch MacBook Pro models already, including retail configurations, while Amazon and other resellers only have stock of the base configuration. Even Apple's online store said that standard models are only available for shipment in three to five business days, but for a model that have faster processors, the delivery will take two to three weeks, which is around the WWDC event.

Further, Apple Authorized Reseller B&H's marked 15-inch MacBook Pro models as end-of-life (EOL), i.e., discontinued.

Apple customer receives 15-inch MacBook Pro delivery delay until June 9

Another potential evidence that a 2015 MacBook Pro is imminent is coming from a MacRumors reader who ordered a 15-inch MacBook Pro model. After a purchase, the reader reportedly "received a delivery date ranging from June 9 to June 15," and June 9 is a day after the start of the WWDC event, where Apple products are going to be unveiled the day after the event keynote.

The MacRumors reader reportedly ordered a "custom configured 15-inch model with a 2.8 GHz processor and 512 GB of storage." This was originally ordered on April 23. On that day, it only had a two to three weeks delivery period, expecting that the model should arrive in May. However, Apple allegedly pushed it back to seven weeks.

MacRumors said that "a single customer's order set to arrive on June 9 just after the WWDC keynote is curious and may suggest Apple's waiting until a refresh to ship his order." But, the site did not dismiss the possibility that it could just be coincidence because the Broadwell chips for the 15-inch MacBook Pro would only come in July or August.

Online retailers list Intel Broadwell Core i7-5775C, Core i5-5675C, Skylake Core i7-6700, and Core i5-6500 for deliveries

However, a report said that online retailers began listing Intel Broadwell Core i7-5775C, Core i5-5675C and Skylake Core i7-6700, Core i5-6500, which are speculated to be included in the 2015 MacBook Pro.

One of the retailers said, "This product (Intel Broadwell i5) is available but currently we do not have stock. Order it today and we will ship when it's available."

Pre-order prices are already given with the Broadwell Core i7-5775C for US$479.77, Core i5-5675C for US$349.99, Skylake-S Core i7-6700 at US$389.99, and Skylake-S i5-6500 with US$249.99.

Apple is speculated to introduce a refreshed 15-inch MacBook Pro at their WWDC on June.

Since the company did not make any official statements, speculations should be taken with a grain of salt.
