The Walking Dead Shooter Will Be Featured in E3, Overkill Developing the Game

By

Overkill Software, creators of the heist first-person shooter Payday, officially announces their upcoming co-op shooter based on a popular graphic novel and TV series, The Walking Dead. The Walking Dead shooter will be featured on a stage at E3 this June in Los Angeles, California.

The Walking Dead, as of this writing, is the working title of the shooter game, will be published by 505 Games which also published Payday. The tentative launch date is 2016 with platforms being the Xbox One, the PlayStation 4, and PC. 505 Games believe that the sales potential of The Walking Dead shooter will eclipse the success of Payday 2. This is expected since Robert Kirkman's comic book series, and most especially the TV series is one of the most recognizable popular culture intellectual property.

Robert Kirkman gave his blessing who said that this is what he envisions for The Walking Dead game, a co-op action game. This is a long-term relationship between Starbreeze and Skybound Interactive. The latter is Robert Kirkman's company. The partnership will extend beyond 2020 and will mark a new era for Starbreeze.

Development of Payday will not cease during the development of The Walking Dead shooter game. Also, Overkill is promising to provide more crossover between Payday and The Walking Dead. This is not the first time that The Walking Dead had been adapted as a game. Granted, all of the games are satellite narratives from the main plot of The Walking Dead graphic novel, they were still critically acclaimed and also were sales juggernaut.

E3 will start come June 14, 2015. Overkill, Starbreeze, and most probably Robert Kirkman will be on-stage to present the upcoming shooter based on the popular TV series and comic book, The Walking Dead. The Walking Dead shooter will be available on Xbox, PlayStation 4, and PC by 2016.
