PS Vita 2 Latest Update: Product Scrapped? Even With all the Vita Games Proliferating PS Vita 2 Highly-unlikely in 2015?

By

In an Android-filled market, PSVita 2 may hardly see the light of day. Not to mention the class offered by iOS smartphones. When gaming is also a big come-on for many smartphone owners, marketing the dedicated handheld game console could be an uphill climb. Or so many think?

In a recent report, PC Advisor detailed that the chances that a PS Vita 2 coming out in 2015 is pretty slim. But it did not end there. Citing a healthy PS Vita games ecosystem amidst a declining console sales, Sony may decide to wipe the PS Vita 2 project off its immediate plans and focus on a cheapened PS Vita, instead.

The discussion is quite logical given the prevalence of smartphones and tablets. But what is apparent is the emphasis on price. It seems that dropping its prices for its next PS Vita iteration should be the order of the day.

The decline of the handheld gaming console has been touted since way back and the sales charts only put the "seemingly inevitable" more pressing. In Cheatsheet, for instance, it is detailed how even with 80 million PSP's sold since 2004, time before the era of smartphones, PS Vita and its biggest competitor the 3DS are experienced a largely weakened sales over the years.

The numbers show us an industry that is on a regular decline. And rumors and speculations plastered all over the online world only add to these growing fears.

Today, with regards to any possible launching for PS Vita 2, Sony is playing mum. More like an ostrich burying its head in the sand. No official announcements made.

In the background, the beleaguered Japanese tech giant is reportedly languishing, already shedding blood - divesting itself of its Vaio PC market for instance.

And as mentioned before, its smartphone business is still trying to keep things together. Surviving but not standing out signified by its muted marketing approach for the Sony Xperia Z4.

And as Nintendo, Sony's biggest competitor in the handheld gaming market - courtesy of 3DS - is also feeling the pinch, it is reportedly overhauling its product line, gunning for a handheld hybrid in the future. Looking itself towards the next-gen system as detailed by Japanese game maker Paul Tassi.

Yes, PS Vita games are proliferating but PS Vita handheld console sales are slowing down. Perhaps like Nintendo, Sony should be on the prowl for fresh approaches. Shouldn't be too hard for a revolutionary company that gave us such trendsetting devices as the WalkMan. Of course, it's no secret that the WalkMan was literally wiped out of Planet Earth when iPod walked in.

Truly, on the balance: PS Vita 2's fate.
