DC Comics ‘Lucifer’ Granted Series Order from Fox; TV Show to Change Image of the Devil in the People’s Eyes?

By

DC Comics "Lucifer" has recently been granted a series order from Fox right after the end of another DC comic based TV show "Constantine."

The story focuses on the bored Devil reincarnate - literally - as a man after 10 Billion years of being the head in-charge in Hell. Lucifer Morningstar portrayed by Tom Ellis ("Merlin") seeks out to live in the city in Los Angeles, having night life in a bar he owns, drinking wine, and flirting with women in a completely human-like behavior.

This demeanor strengthens when a pop star was killed and Lucifer finds himself helping out to solve the case. The story will then progress when the retired Devil meets a LAPD homicide detective CHLOE DANCER, played by Lauren German ("Chicago Fire"), who is handling the murder case.

There seems to be mutual attraction between the two and from there complications coming from the Devil - human relationship, God summoning Lucifer to get back to Hell, to other things like how Lucifer is awed by a human heart's purity and wonders if he could still save himself, will arise.

The script was written by Tom Kapinos who also created "Californication" and the show will be directed by Len Wiseman. Fox has signed Joe Henderson, who just came fresh from "USA's White Collar", as the project's showrunner.

Packaged with the show's official announcement in the small screen comes both the trailer for "Lucifer" as well as a behind-the-scenes footages that have received mixed opinion from the public.

Undoubtedly, the upcoming show will face a lot of religious criticisms. Some fans of the comics are worried that the mainstream viewers might interpret it negatively.

Some part of the plot that raises curiosity is the way the fallen angel responds to his environmental stimuli in a humanly fashion. Also, the very concept of the "Devil" is being discredited and twisted in the story in a way that when humans behave in an evil manner, these people are supposedly influenced by the "Devil."

On how DC Comics "Lucifer" will affect the viewers' thinking will surface when the said fiction premieres midseason in 2016.
