Oculus Rift, Project Morpheus, and HTC Vive: Three Virtual Reality Devices Set to Change the Future of Gaming

At the rate that technology has been advancing this past decade, it's not surprising that gaming and tech companies are spending millions developing virtual reality devices. Three such companies have been developing VR headgears and it seems that the future really has arrived. Meet Oculus Rift's Crescent Bay, Sony's Project Morpheus, and HTC Vive. These are just three of the most anticipated VR gadgets today and fans and geeks are all excited over these three babies.

Let's start with the Oculus Rift. Developed in 2012 by 22-year-old Palme Luckey, the Oculus Rift is a revival of the virtual reality craze of the 90's. Set to be released sometime next year, it has a 5-inch OLED screen with 1920 x 1080 resolution. At latency of 20ms, refresh rate is 90fps with a 110-degree field of view. Weighing at 0.97lbs, for now it's on a PC platform, but plans for making it more than just for gaming is underway. After all, Facebook has already bought it, so God knows what these geeks are planning with the Oculus.

Next, we have Project Morpheus by Sony Computer Entertainment. The gaming giant introduced at last year's Game Developers Conference a virtual reality prototype designed for the PlayStation platform and they called it Project Morpheus. Set to be made available by the first quarter of 2016, the gadget is said to have a whopping 5.7-inch OLED screen with 1920 x RGB x 1080 resolution. It has a latency of 18ms on a 100-degree field of view, with refresh a rate of 120fps. Project Morpheus will be released specifically for PlayStation, making it the first virtual reality device on a console.

Finally, but definitely not the least of the three, we take a look at HTC Vive. Unveiled at the Mobile World Congress, introduced Vive as its pet project with tech partner Valve. With a 5.2-inch screen and 1080 x 1200 resolution per eye, Vive aims to do more than what Oculus and
