HTC One M8 Updates: HTC announces Android 5.1 Lollipop, Sense 7 upgrades in August; Killer specs revealed

By

Updates for HTC One M8 will be rolling out in three months according to HTC UK.

Responding to an inquiry on Twitter, HTC UK marked August 2015 as the date for the One M8 software update for Android Version 5.1 and Sense 7.0 UI.

The expected updates will reportedly allow the user to change grip app switcher to stock Lollipop style. Part of the update will include app reshuffling, BlinkFeed updates, and some new widgets.

The Android 5.1 Lollipop upgrade is expected to fix Android 5.0 bugs such as forced reboot, freezing apps, and battery drain. New features will be added including refinements to the screen PIN, device security, and quick settings. Enhancements also include Dual SIM support and HD Voice for compatible devices.

Android 5.1 Lollipop is already available over the air to the HTC One M7. The Sense 7.0 UI is only currently available for the HTC One M9.

Reports say the Sense 7 allows the device to adapt to the user's usage habits. The Morning Bundles pop ups the user's personal agenda and top news when the phone is accessed at the beginning of the day.

The Restaurant Bundle will suggest nearby restaurants. A smart launcher widget shows apps dependent on the usage patterns and the phone's location. There is also a feature called the Sense Home app.

Reviews for HTC's 2014 flagship smartphone pegged the device as the best Android phone of its time. The M8 came with the then-new Sense 6 software with the Android 4.4 KitKat running on a quad-core Snapdragon 801 chipset at 2.5 GHz and 2GB of DDR2 RAM. The design features were a hit including the HTC Duo Camera, the 90% metal case, and the Super LCD 3 panel on a 5-inch screen.

HTC One M8 updates in the United States have not yet been confirmed as the HTC US has not made any announcement as yet.
