The upcoming third season of "Blacklist" will see some major changes in terms of storyline and format, according to actress Megan Boone, who plays the role of Liz Keen.
Following the events that took place during season two's finale episode, Liz's character as a fugitive will be given more focus. In the past, Liz worked closely within the law but that will change drastically come season 3, according to Fashion & Style. In an interview with Zap2It, Boone also hinted that "Blacklist" will take on a different format because the series will no longer follow a strict formula.
"If you break open the entire task force, then it will be challenging to try to find the procedural aspect of the show again. With 22 episodes a year, it does benefit the show to have some kind of a formula... But we are going to sort of break open a lot of the structure of the show," she said.
Meanwhile, during last season's finale episode, fans of "Blacklist" saw a flashback to Liz's childhood, as well as her suppressed childhood memories. Liz also found out that she was being framed by The Cabal and in an attempt to clear her name, Red (James Spader) used all of his connections to save her. Fast forward to the upcoming seasons, there is a chance that Tom (Ryan Eggold) and Liz will have their happy ending.
In a previous interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Eggold explained that the first and second seasons of "Blacklist" were mostly focused on unveiling the biggest series questions. However, the upcoming seasons will focus on finding the answers to those questions.
"The first season and most of the second season has been about questions... I think we're getting to a place where we're answering a lot of that, and it feels like the right time to do so," he said.
"Blacklist" season 3 returns to NBC this coming fall.
