Marvel's upcoming Spider-Man reboot just locked in its star- Asa Butterfield, who according to early reports is in talks to star as Peter Parker in the latest slew of Spider-Man films. The plan is for Butterfield to appear as Peter Parker in next year's Captain America: Civil War first, then follow up in his own film, the Spider-Man reboot that will be a joint production between Sony and Marvel Studios.
But Butterfield is described as being in early talks, and it's mentioned that other actors could still potentially swoop in and steal the role out from under him. Nat Wolf, Tom Holland, Timothee Chalomet and Liam James were all young actors considered for the Marvel Cinematic Universe's Spider-Man, and while Butterfield continues to negotiate with the studio, it's possible that another actor might end up as Marvel's most famous superhero.
Butterfield is best known for starring in the 2013 adaptation of Ender's Game, but the young English actor also gathered acclaim when he starred in Martin Scorcese's Hugo, back in 2011. It's not yet known what kind of a role Spider-Man will have in the upcoming Captain America: Civil War, but given the current rumors and the source material (Marvel's Civil War comic event), it's extremely likely Spider-Man will be a young, innocent hero torn between the warring factions of superheroes led by Captain American and Iron Man.
Whoever gets the role of Peter Parker, it's bound to be a star-making one. Both Marvel Studios and Sony understand the potential in Spider-Man- he's one of the most popular superheroes of all time, and one of the most lucrative superhero film franchise. If Butterfield is cast, he'll be starring in Marvel Studios films and the concurrent franchise of Sony Spider-Man films, as the studio is rumored to still be pursuing the Sinister Six and Venom spin-offs they were working on before working out their deal with Marvel Studios. No matter which actor gets the role, superhero movie fans are guaranteed tons of Spider-Man to come.
