Assassin's Creed Syndicate Release Update: Game to use AnvilNext Engine; Two Playable Lead characters revealed

By

Assassin's Creed Syndicate is the ninth major installment of the Assassin's Creed franchise and is using the AnvilNext engine. This game is developed and published by Ubisoft to be released on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on October 23, 2015.

As of this writing, only the historical period is known for the story. Assassin's Creed Syndicate is set in London, the year 1869. This is the transitional year caught between the first and second industrial revolution. At this time, the Brotherhood of Assassins are vastly outnumbered by the series' main antagonists, the Templars.

Assassin's Creed Syndicate will be using the AnvilNext engine, which first used in Assassin's Creed III. The AnvilNext engine is the natural evolution of the Anvil engine, used in earlier Assassin's Creed games, and is expected to render thousands of characters at the same time as opposed to hundreds. Assassin's Creed Syndicate has a notable omission, there will be no multiplayer or co-op for this game. Marc-Alexis Côté, a creative director at Ubisoft Quebec, stated that they are focusing in creating the biggest playable region in an Assassin's Creed game ever, hence the decision to use the AnvilNext engine as well as the heavy focus in single-player experience.

There are two protagonists in Assassin's Creed Syndicate, Evie and Jacob, a first in an Assassin's Creed game. Evie is the first female lead in an Assassin's Creed mainline title. Aveline de Grandpré is the first female lead in an Assassin's Creed in Assassin's Creed III: Liberation, but this game is a spin-off. This may be a response to the backlash Ubisoft received when they stated that it is difficult to create a woman character in an Assassin's Creed game because of the additional workload.

Assassin's Creed Syndicate is being developed and published by Ubisoft, who are best known for the Far Cry, Prince of Persia, and Just Dance. Assassin's Creed Syndicate will be the first Assassin's Creed to be released only on current generation consoles and PC. The tentative release date of this game is October 23, 2015. The PC version is set in a later date, around Q3 / Q4 2015.
