FX has finally announced that the award-winning vampire thriller series "The Strain" is officially returning for its second season. The team continues attempting to wipe out the dangerous creatures with a newly crafted biological weapon in "The Strain's" comeback on July 12.

After the success of its first run, Guillermo del Torro and Carlton Cuse's award-winning infectious series is reappearing on television again, retaining its Sunday schedule at 10PM.

Picking up where the first season left off, the sophomore year of "The Strain" unfolds New York City's rapid epidemic transformation. After Dr. Ephraim Goodweather (Corey Stoll) and his allies' failure in taking down the Master who caused the existing plague, they now move on to creating a biological weapon which is capable of wiping out the dangerous creatures.

Abraham Setrakian (David Bradley) then searches for an ancient book which he believes to be the possible key in eliminating the strigois. Meanwhile, the Master starts creating new and more dangerous breeds as revenge. The team then aims to defeat him before the epidemic infection becomes irrevocable.

The show's second season is set to include new features like the vampire hunters which were already seen throughout the first season, the literary Quinlans and the masked luchador Angel. Aside from that, "American Horror Story: Asylum" star Lizzie Brochere is set to join the cast as seen in the trailer alongside "The Amazing Spiderman" star Max Charles who will be replacing Ben Hyland as Zach Goodweather.

The sophomore run of the vampire thriller series will hail from Showrunner/Executive Producer/Writer Carlton Cuse together with Co-Creators/Executive Producers/Writers Guillermo del Toro and Chuck Hogan. Gary Ungar on the other hand, will executive produce with J. Miles Dale, Bradley Thompson, David Weddle and Regina Corrado.

It was noted that the first season of "The Strain" was named 2014's most-watched new scripted series among all cable networks in adults earning 2.4 million viewers. Now that it's bound to be back on July 12, will the show be able retain its 2014 title?
