27-Inch Retina 5K iMac with a Slower Processor and a Price Cut: A different kind of innovation from Apple

By

Apple silently released a new 27-inch iMac features Retina 5K. Although 5K resolution is amazing, its new processor coupled with a price cut isn't making it clear a definition of the term upgrade.

Sources reveal that some Apple customers who ordered the previous iMac version was upgraded to the new 27-inch Retina 5K iMac. There were email notifications sent to those Apple customers who got a free and apparently automatic upgrade. The company website showed the new product item categorized as ''new" along with its considerably lower price which went from $2,299 to $1,999. The new Retina 5K feature and lower price has a little catch.

The difference is barely noticeable but the new 27-inch iMac features has a slower processor. It may not be a great idea after all to have its release alongside other new Apple products at its annual WWDC. The new model has 3.3 GHz quad-core Core i5, turbo boost up to 3.7 GHz, 8 GB memory, 1 TB hard drive, AMD Radeon R9 M290 with 2 GB video memory and its sells for $1999. The old 27-inch iMac on the other hand, has 3.5 GHz quad-core Core i5, turbo boost up to 3.9 GHz, 8 GB memory, 1 TB Fusion Drive, AMD Radeon R9 M290X with 2 GB video memory and retails at $2,299.

Reports say that Apple is ideally releasing incremental product updates to give way for bigger product revelations in WWDC. Sources say that WWDC event would likely focus on new iOS and OSX; new Apple TV and the associated app store.

The new 27- Inch Retina 5K iMac changes could be a practical move from Apple. The Cupertino based company used to make the most astounding marketing strategies to put the highest prestige on its products regardless of the level of improvements they have. Is Apple changing its stance in the extreme high-end spectrum?
