If the finale of the third season of historical drama television series "Vikings" has been agonizing, fans should brace themselves further as the series creator Michael Hirst has dropped some hints on the legendary Viking Ragnar's impending doom. However, three actors namely Peter Franzen, Jasper Paakkonen, and Dianne Doan will be added as new characters in the History Channel show.
Dropping a major spoiler, it was seen in the third season that Ragnar Lothbrok (Travis Fimmel) is gravely wounded and his health is in jeopardy. Consequently, series creator Michael Hirst sat down with The Hollywood Reporter to dish out some details on what will happen in the next season. According to him, the season four will pick up on Ragnar's severe condition. And it looks like the legendary Viking doesn't have the odds with him as Hirst furthered his elaboration. "It's very important to note that he's not only sick; he's hovering between life and death ... It's a big story point," the creator explained.
Moreover, with Ragnar's waning health, IB Times reports that his son Bjorn Ironside (Alexander Ludwig) will be travelling to the Mediterranean and while the website didn't mention his purpose, fans speculate that Bjorn is seeking doctor's help to prolong Ragnar's life. However, that would be somewhat pointless as Hirst's interview with the THR also brought some wretched implication. The series creator has inferred that Bjorn's father will be good as dead soon.
Because of the looming demise, Hirst also divulged that the show's upcoming season will be focusing on Ragnar's sons; he is also hoping that viewers will get to appreciate them. Likewise, season four will commence years after the Viking's journey, according to Hirst. Going back, they had sent off for Paris and it took them a long time to reach the destination. Now in their return, it would stretch for up to two years to reach home because of Ragnar's health.
Meanwhile, to lessen the bad news, THR also states that three new characters will be added in the show and they will be contributing huge impacts to the Vikings. First one's Peter Franzen (A Summer by the River) who has been cast as King Harald Finehair. Also, Jasper Paakkonen was added to the cast as Finehair's brother. The siblings are northern Vikings who will add some drama on the historical show, specifically bringing forth some evil plans on Ragnar and his people.
On the other hand, Dianne Doan is also on board as the Chinese character Yidu. Doan's character is speculated to bring Eastern technology and progressions such as fireworks and explosive powder to the Vikings. It was in March that the show has been renewed for fourth season to premiere in 2016.
