Project Morpheus exclusive high quality games are in the works with Sony establishing a first party developer studio in the UK. The new studio is being put up ahead of the June 2016 projected release of Sony's virtual reality gear.
Sony confirmed the setting up of the new North West Studio in the UK to focus on games development exclusively for the PlayStation 4 virtual reality headset.
A recent announcement on the Playstation Jobs Vacancies on the Sony Computer Entertainment Europe careers page tipped off tech circles on the setting up of a Sony studio for Project Morpheus. Job postings published for North West Studio were for an Experienced Level Designer, Experienced Character Animator for Games, Lead Artist, Experienced Game Designer - Systems, Lead Designer, Experienced Graphics Engine Programmer, Experienced Gameplay Programmer, and Lead and Gameplay Programmer.
Sony reportedly clarified that the new team will also have staff from Evolution Studios who are tasked to develop high quality experiences for the upcoming Sony VR headset. "We always look to relocate staff throughout the studios, and this is no exception. The new team will be made up of a combination of Evolution staff members and new talent, with a focus on hiring the most highly experienced team possible," Sony added.
"We are dedicated to producing high quality experiences for Project Morpheus, and the creation of this studio allows us to build a small but highly experienced team who can utilise their skills to showcase this exciting new immersive technology," a Sony spokesperson said.
Both North West Studio and Evolution Studios are in the English North West.
Earlier reports pegged the target release of the Project Morpheus for the second quarter of 2016, specifically in June 2016. If the projection is correct Sony will have a year to push the new VR headset gaming exclusively for PlayStation 4.
Project Morpheus details are expected to be released at E3 this coming June.
