Universal Pictures confirmed that 'Fifty Shades Darker' will be released in 2017. While fans have to wait for two years before the sequel hits the big screen, new casting updates have already been revealed. First up, Charlize Theron is set to play the role of Elena Lincoln's character, also known as 'Mrs. Robinson'.
Elena Lincoln was introduced in the first movie as Christian's former dominatrix and current business partner - she was referred to as 'Mrs. Robinson' by Anastasia Steele. Rumor has it that Universal Pictures is already negotiating with Charlize Theron for the role.
Meanwhile, Jamie Dornan will be back as Christian Grey. Several reports have claimed that he was offered a hefty amount of sum to go full-frontal for the sequel. This is still unconfirmed since sensitive scenes from the first movie, 'Fifty Shades of Grey', were banned from being shown in most theaters worldwide.
'Fifty Shades Darker', E.L. James' second book, will also give life to new characters - Leila Williams, Christian's former submissive-turned-stalker, and Jack Hyde Anastasia's new maniac boss.
While Cara Delevingne is being considered to play the role of Leila, five actors are are being rumored to play Jack Hyde. Reports named Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Jai Courtney, Wes Bentley, Shawn Ashmore, and the fan-favorite Henry Cavill, who is also the current Superman - him turning into 'Man of (Anastasia) Steele' is yet to be determined.
Sadly, the movie sequel would need another director since Sam Taylor-Johnson decided not to continue with the project - it was rumored that he and E.L James' had some conflict with the filmmaking process of the first movie. Universal Pictures Chairman Donna Langley was fast to clear this up by saying the author did not interfere with the production.
'Fifty Shades Darker' recently released its first teaser trailer, which showed Jamie Dornan donning a sexy black mask. The sequel will pick up right where the first installment ended - with Christian and Ana's sudden breakup.
