‘Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials’ Update: First Trailer and Poster Reveal Thomas and Gladers Running For Their Lives in the ‘Scorch’; James Dashner Teases Changes in the Sequel

With only more than three months to debut on the big screen, the upcoming sequel "Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials" to last year's dystopian sci-fi action thriller film "The Maze Runner" is heating up as the very first trailer and poster were revealed featuring Thomas and friends running for their lives in the "Scorch." Just when you think you know everything, book purists, author James Dashner just dropped some hints on the changes in the sequel.

Last year's "The Maze Runner" surprised everyone with the seat-gripping actions. Considering it's an adaptation from a young adult novel, it grossed over $340 worldwide. The movie is actually based from James Dashner's book with the same title, and now that the puzzle for the maze has been solved, Thomas (Dylan O'Brien) is on the verge again to save the humanity.

In the first trailer for the sequel "Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials," it showed almost everything the fans can expect from the movie. The plot actually picks up from Thomas and the Gladers being saved from the maze. There will be lots of tests they need to get past in order to survive. There's Minho (Ki Hong Lee) always on Thomas' side. Teresa (Kaya Scodelario), Thomas' love interest and Newt (Thomas Brodie-Sangster) are also back for the sequel. However, new characters will be added in the much-anticipated "Scorch."

Two of them are Jorge (Giancarlo Esposito) and Brenda (Rosa Salazar), who are members of the Cranks or the zombie-like creatures. The duo will play a pivotal role in the movie, so that's one thing movie fans should not miss. Moreover, the very first poster was also disclosed. The said promo image features Thomas and cohorts traveling the vast expanse of the "Scorch" or the barren land. Likewise, it also shows some ruins of WICKD's buildings in the desert. WICKD is actually the simplified term for WICKED (World In Catastrophe, Killzone Experiment Department). They are the organization responsible for these tests that would make the lives of Thomas and the Gladers disconcerting.

Meanwhile, just when you think you know all the details because you have probably read the whole series, probably including the prequel "The Kill Order," this will make you grimace as author James Dashner himself admitted that there are changes in the upcoming sequel. During his interview with the Radio Times, Dashner had spoken about the major change in Kaya Scodelario's character in director Wes Ball's adaptation of his hit novel.

"I can't give too much away yet, but that'll be probably the biggest thing that people notice," the author teased. "The change with where Teresa is throughout the movie and that's because of the change we decided on for the first movie." Spoiler alert, is Dashner implying that Teresa would not be so smitten with Thomas? The two actually had developed a relationship in the trilogy but that wasn't given an attention in the first movie. Whatever that is, fans should brace themselves.

With a screenplay by T.S. Nowlin, 20th Century Fox's "Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials" is slated to debut on September 18, 2015. It stars Dylan O'Brien, Kaya Scodelario, Thomas Brodie-Sangster, Ki Hong Lee, Patricia Clarkson, Rosa Salazar, Jacob Lofland, Giancarlo Esposito, Aidan Gillen, and Lili Taylor.

So there it goes. Book fans shouldn't worry as the concept is still there, doesn't it? What parts are you most excited about the "The Scorch Trials"? Do you think the movie will surpass the previous one? Who are you rooting for to survive the tests? Leave us your comments below!
