‘Sinister 2’ Latest Update: Family Killings Saga; Horror Too Plain and Predictable?

By

"Sinister 2" will creep its way to the theaters worldwide three months later. While the release date is approaching, the horror tale is getting mixed reaction from both fans and the critics on where it stands in the horror continuum.

The movie is continuing from where its 2012 release "Sinister" predecessor left - the house under investigation for being the setting of family murders.

The first movie features an author, who newly moved into the feared house with his wife and children. Ellison, which was Ethan Hawke's character, gave into his curiosity and began watching the film of the murdered families including the details on how they were killed. The movie ends with Ellison and his household being murdered with an axe by none other than his own daughter.

"Sinister 2" also follows the story of a newly settled family of a mother named Courtney, played by the Shannyn Sossamon ("The Rules of Attraction," "The Day"), and her nine-year-old twin sons Zach and Dylan (played by real-life twins Dartanian and Robert Daniel Sloan) as they move into a rural home that turns out to be haunted by the sinister spirit Buhguul.

This time though, the vulnerable family gets help from a friendly Deputy, played by James Ransone, who is investigating Bughuul following the death of the family in "Sinister."

Being made in one producing company, the movie is drowning in rumors that it is riding off "Insidious" popularity to gain viewers. The Henry Hall song in the background led to a speculation of the company trying to attract fans of "Insidious."

Additionally, a critic made a comment detaching the movie in talk from its parent film, saying that the sequel is "less like a sequel to Sinister than a new installment in the classic horror franchise "Children of the Corn."

Blumhouse Productions previously threw a trailer of the movie giving emphasis on the evil children that are most probably part of the demonic Buhguul's army. While some fans are quite excited to watch the continuation of the "Sinister," the sequel is suffering from critical opinion from being too predictable and old school. There were no out of the box ideas to spark interest of horror fanatics.

The sequel was directed by Ciaran Foy ("Citadel") and scripted by Scott Derrickson and C. Robert Cargill, who also wrote the first film. "Sinister 2" will attempt to scare the wits of out of moviegoers worldwide on theaters August 21, 2015.
