Fans of Fox's "The Following" are still grieving over the conclusion of the show's third season and the network's cancellation. The last season closed some of the plot's important doors but left a few that left fans hanging. Perhaps these questions will be answered if Netflix or other online networks decides to pick up the Kevin Bacon-starrer.
"The Following" was axed by FOX due to the significant decline in ratings. Some believe that Joe Carroll's demise caused the show's cancellation but one could not deny that the psychological thriller really had a good run during the past seasons.
"The Following" could get an online revival just like many other shows that were cancelled by their mother networks.
Back in 2014, Dan Harmon's Community was terminated by NBC after five seasons. But few months after, Yahoo decided to pick up the sitcom to the delight of the show's cult following.
Just recently, Mindy Kaling's "The Mindy Project" was also axed by FOX but the show has found a new home in Hulu.
Clearly, it is not impossible that "The Following" will have the same fate like these shows, proven that Ryan Hardy has earned a lot of fans throughout its 3-season run. One report even noted the reasons why "The Following" season 4 should happen.
Despite the death of Joe Carroll, the show's main villain, season 3 introduced a new antagonist and one of them is Eliza, played by Annet Mahendru. Her real identity remained vague even after the series finale. The viewers only know that she works for a mysterious group and even the name of her employer was never revealed.
Another report said that since "The Following" season 3 ended with Ryan being a rogue, it could lead to a possible spin-off. But if the show becomes lucky enough to get picked up online, it could also center on Ryan Hardy's story now that he is free from rules and can now do anything he wants.
FOX already gave "The Following" a verdict but fans of the show remains hopeful that the show will soon be streamed online. That is not impossible to happen especially with the interesting stories that were left hanging even after the third season and the massive online support of its fans.
