Norman will be having a lot of Fake Norma encounters in "Bates Motel" season 4 now that he became a full-blown psycho. Does it mean Freddie Highmore and Vera Farmiga will share another mother-son smooch? Also, now that Emma decided to undergo a lung transplant, will she get better next season? Or will her illness get in the way to her blooming romance with Dylan?
"Bates Motel" will take a giant step towards Alfred Hitchcock's "Psycho" now that it's about to enter its fourth season. The A&E hit series ended its third season with Norman Bates fully succumbing to his mental disorder. There were a lot of instances during the third season that saw Norman talking to Fake Norma, a clear indication of his mother's influence on him.
Norman's delusions will intensify in "Bates Motel" season 4, leading to more conversations between him and his fake mother. These interactions/Norman's hallucination could also lead to a possible Freddie Highmore and Vera Farmiga kissing scene once again.
During the season 2 finale of the "Bates Motel," Norma kissed her son to stop him from killing himself after realizing that he killed his professor and learning that he was also the one responsible for her father's death. Although, the kiss in season 2 was more motherly, the possible smooch that could happen between Norma and Norman in season 3 could be a result of Norman's obsession with his mother.
Freddie Highmore seems open to the idea of kissing his TV mother again and even noted that he thinks "it's not weird" at all. Vera Farmiga on the other hand, tells that the kiss is essential to the storytelling of the show and is not against the idea of doing it again in "Bates Motel" season 4.
"The way we attack those scenes is with sheer earnestness. It's funny what comes across [to viewers] and the judgment that's put on it. In those moments, it's just sheer affection between a mother and son. That's how I'm playing it," said Farmiga.
Another story that viewers should watch out for is the budding relationship of Emma (Olivia Cooke) and Dylan (Max Thierot), which could be hindered by Emma's illness. Following her decision to undergo the transplant, season 4 will see the possible effects of the operation. One report noted that viewers could expect the transplant to go wrong to add more drama and tension to her the Emma-Dylan love affair.
"Bates Motel" season 4 sure has a lot of things in store for its diehards including a possible kiss between Norma and Norman as the latter goes full-on crazy next season. Emma and Dylan's relationship will also be tested as Emma's lung transplant could go wrong.
