Google might bring to life a teddy bear that will move and talk on its own in its attempt to enter the toy industry.
It is described by some as a hybrid between Apple's virtual assistant Siri and the Child's Play series' Chucky, since it apparently is going to have the ability to communicate and move on its own. That prospect is creepy for those people.
Supernatural origins do not give it life, though. The Google teddy bear has some built-in sensors and cameras, to move and perceive things. The teddy bear would be able to sense a user's gaze. Once it does, it will turn its head to look back at him. After it receives and recognizes a voice command prompt, it can be told to control media devices at home like the TV or WiFi-controlled devices.
With the advent of the Internet of Things, it might not be surprising if the company does come up with this kind of a device. Despite the application for patent though, Google may or may not proceed with the manufacture of the toy.
"We hold patents on a variety of ideas - some of those ideas later mature into real products or services; some don't," Google told CNN in an emailed statement.
This is not surprising, since Google filed the patent way back in 2012 according to a report. The search engine company appers to have long been thinking about actually making the teddy bear. It is also way ahead of Mattel in its WiFi-cnnected Barbie idea.
"Upon reception or a detection of a social cue, such as a movement and/or a spoken word or phrase, the anthropomorphic device may aim its gaze at the source of the social cue," specified by the patent published by leagl technology company StartUp.
"To express curiosity, it may tilt its head, furrow its brow, and/or scratch its head with an arm," it added.
