One would think most of the planet has already seen Avengers: Age of Ultron (especially as the film's box office gross climbs toward the $1.5 billion mark), but there are probably a few people out there who haven't seen this year's biggest Marvel blockbuster. And for those still in the dark, consider the next few paragraphs to be extra-large [SPOILERS]. Especially considering the character who doesn't make it out of Age of Ultron alive.
Now, for those who've seen it: Quicksilver, obviously, ends Age of Ultron in a SHIELD rescue boat, having been killed in a hail of Ultron gunfire. But it wasn't always meant to be this way. It's just been revealed that Joss Whedon filmed an alternate ending where Quicksilver's back on his feet and part of the New Avengers team assembled at the end of the movie. The alternate ending will be included on the film's Blu-ray; the scene involves Quicksilver waking up from what seemed like his tragic death, donning a new costume and joining the other New Avengers in the film's final moments.
According to Joss Whedon, the extra scene was shot because Whedon wasn't sure if Marvel would let him kill off Quicksilver at all, as the studio may have wanted to include the character in future Marvel movies (and Aaron Taylor-Johnson has been hesitant to talk about how many Marvel movies his contract includes, meaning the studio might have wanted him for more). It sounds like Quicksilver's death and (deleted) resurrection was just one more battle in the war Whedon fought with Marvel in making Age of Ultron- he's gone on the record talking about his difficulties shooting the film, the vast amount of deleted scenes and the studios problems with Thor's trip to the cave and Hawkeye's family on the farm.
Could Quicksilver return in a future Marvel movie, even without that alternate ending on the official record? Yeah, probably; if Marvel could bring Phil Coulson back from the dead, they could probably do the same for an official Avenger. Keep an eye out for that deleted ending when Avengers: Age of Ultron releases on Blu-ray.
