'Avengers: Age of Ultron' concept Art reveals original comic book look for Ultron; Four-armed upgrade revealed

By

People loved Avengers: Age of Ultron. It's the second-biggest opening weekend of all time (although a less-than-incredible 75% on Rotten Tomatoes), so yes, we can assume that the majority of people loved Avengers: Age of Ultron. But not everyone loved Ultron, the killer A.I. bent on destroying the Earth and voiced by James Spader. Some reviewers questioned the amount of comic relief he was given, others just didn't like him at all.

But Ultron might have been way scarier then he ended up in the final film. New concept art has appeared online showing several early versions of Ultron, and they're far more menacing than the one we saw in theaters last weekend. In the concept art (seen above) we can make out eight potential Ultrons with slightly different looks. Some are more muscular, some are sleeker, there's one that looks like an old-fashioned Power Rangers-type robot and there's one that has four arms, not unlike Ultron's look in the comics.

The biggest difference, however, is Ultron's face- which is very comic-appropriate and features the large, open red mouth slit seen in just about every comic book version of Ultron. This is not what we got in Age of Ultron- in the film, Ultron has an actual mouth that moves around (presumably so that James Spader's motion capture performance could be better utilized), but the moving mouth made Ultron look a little more human and a little less scary.

Could these different Ultron concepts have fixed that big complaint in Age of Ultron? Who knows. They might not even be real concept art, considering there's no official source (although they seem to be scans from a book... maybe from an 'Art of Age of Ultron'-ish book). We'll never really know. Unless Marvel decides to bring the character back in a later phase, maybe with a face-lift.

Avengers: Age of Ultron is in theaters as we speak.
